The Secret Escape, the Maldives

The Maldives, a Secret Escape

The first time I ever saw a picture of the Maldives reflected a quaint hut featuring a romantic couple dipping their toes in the blue sea water.  The Maldives is located in the Indian Ocean.  The name means garland as it a chain of 26 atolls.   The most remarkable feature is that it is a perfect getaway for couples seeking the ultimate secret escape.

Known for its marine life, the Maldives is the divers dream.  The destination hosts 1192 coral islands which features 1100 species of fish, coral reefs, 5 species of sea turtles, 21 species of whales and dolphins.

The weather is almost always perfect in the Maldives.  Averaging a temperature in about 90 degrees daily.  However, during inclement weather of the monsoon, the Maldives is subject to flooding and suffered tremendous damage during the tsunami.

The culture and language  is primarily Dhivehi  spoken in the Indian territory of Minicoy.  The most remarkable note about the culture, the language can be traced to 800 years.
